Narrative & Concept
This mural, titled “La Puerta del Desierto” (The Desert Gate), was created for the Maratón Lala 2023 competition. It serves as a visual homage to my adopted home of Torreón and the La Laguna region. The design centers on the iconic Puerta Amarilla (Yellow Gate), symbolizing the entrance to the challenging but beautiful desert environment. The piece uses the region's characteristic warm, vibrant colors of the sunsets and incorporates local symbols: the dairy cow (representing the cuenca lechera), the coyote, and indigenous flora like cactus and maguey. The perspective is exaggerated to convey the grandeur of the landscape, anchored by the Sierra de las Noas in the foreground.
